Offers & Details

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
is a grappling-based martial art whose central theme is the skill of controlling a resisting opponent in ways that force him to submit. Due to the fact that control is generally easier on the ground than in a standing position, much of the technique of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is centered around the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for dominant control positions from where the opponent can be rendered harmless.

To control and overcome greater size, strength, and aggression with lesser size and strength is the keynote of the sport. This is done by utilizing superior leverage, grip, and position upon your opponent. Students of the sport gain a deep understanding of the workings and limits of the human body.

This knowledge can be used to subdue and control an opponent with whatever level of severity the student chooses. The path to this knowledge is physically and mentally demanding. Students benefit from greatly increased physical fitness, problem-solving ability, self-knowledge of their body and mind and the many social benefits of working within a large group of like-minded fellow students as you learn and have fun together.

Submission Grappling
A new sport with a long history. The objective is to submit your opponent using a variety of joint locks and chokes, or to win the match by points. Competitions in this sport resemble Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions, although competitors do not usually wear gis. This lack of gi increases the amount of speed and athleticism required, and it also limits the sweeping and submission options of the competitors.

Submission Grappling is mainly based on Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. The influence of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be seen in the types of positions and submissions most commonly used in the sport.

Bully Awareness

Bullying has become a problem in society today.  It is in our schools, on the school bus, online, and in activities in which our children participate. These bullies simply don’t care about others. Our children are being affected in so many ways by those who bully.  No one should have to feel the anguish of loneliness, and abandonment, the physical and mental heartache and pain due to the insensitivity of the person/or persons who are bullying. Bullies prey just because they can get away with it!  By bullying they try to satisfy their own inadequacies, thinking they have to prove something to themselves or others, and all at the expense of another person.

Some signs of being bullied may be depression or withdrawal, refusal to be involved in any outside activities, school work plummeting, crying easily, or striking out at home or at others.  In some cases you may even see the signs of physical abuse, like bruising or worse. If you notice any behavioral changes in your child, please talk with them, and if it is abuse by a bully- report it!

At Dayton MMA we teach students how to recognize, handle and diffuse these kinds of situations.  We do not promote confrontation.  Confidence, self worth, respect, dialog, positive and confident attitude, and self defense techniques are just a few of the tools we, at Dayton MMA, strive to teach and instill in each of our students. These are the same techniques used by law enforcement to subdue a dangerous attacker without causing physical harm.  While in our program, they will increase their physical and mental stamina, building great mental and physical reflexes, improve memory and concentration, and respect for themselves, their peers, and others.  These are all great life skills which they will carry with them throughout their lives.

Benefits of our program include:
• Improved Self Confidence & Self Esteem
• A Positive Attitude
• Self Defense Skills
• Learn How to Overcome Adversity
• Learn to Deal with Difficult Situations
• Leadership Skills
• Improved Health and Fitness
• Improved Strength & Flexibility
• Making New Friends!
• Having Fun!

Self Defense
While many aspects of Jiu-Jitsu you see today reflect an art geared towards points and the sport competition we all see and love today, the art started from a true self defense aspect. Teaching a smaller more frail individual to defend themselves and defeat larger combatants is where this art began. We feel very strongly in the roots of Jiu-Jitsu and the self defense aspects of the art. In these classes we will look at a true rounded curriculum comprised of Jiu-Jitsu, striking as well as weapons. We look forward to seeing you on the mats.
Muay Thai Boxing
Muay Thai (“Thai Boxing”) is the national sport of Thailand, and is also known as Thai Kickboxing or the Art of the Eight Limbs. Traditional Muay Thai has a long history in Thailand as a martial art used by the military. The military style of Muay Thai is called Lerdirt, while today’s “Sport Muay Thai” slightly varies from the original art and uses kicks and punches in a ring and with gloves similar to those used in western boxing.
Muay Thai is referred to as “The Science of Eight Limbs”, as the hands, feet, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A master practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight “points of contact,” as opposed to “two points” (fists) in boxing and “four points” (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts. Muay Thai is an especially versatile, straightforward martial art.

Client Testimonials

I originally started at a different gym and it wasn’t a good fit for me. I decided to try Dayton MMA after reading several great reviews about them online. It was a perfect fit! Everyone at the gym is very friendly and make you feel like you’re part of their family. If you’re a beginner or not sure about trying Jiu Jitsu, I highly recommend trying them, Chris is very patient and will help you every step of the way. If you’re looking for a gym with phenomenal instruction, attention to detail and a fun environment, this is it.
Sarah

My daughter has been training with Chris for over 5 years now. She started out in his bully awareness class and progressed to his more advanced BJJ classes.

Chris always takes time to work with each child at their skill level. Always being tough with discipline and respect, but still trying to keep things open and fun for all the kids. And mostly, he is always caring and wants each student to excel.

Valarie

My daughter has been attending the Saturday Bully Awareness classes for over 3 years now and I can’t say enough about Coach Chris and the class. She has learned so much from him on how to be aware of her surroundings and how to react appropriately when bullied or threatened. He provides the perfect mix of life safety skills with jiu jitsu moves.
Coach Chris loves to work with children and it shows. However, he keeps tight control of the class and expects them to work hard and safe, while still managing to keep it fun. My daughter loves to go every week and usually wants to stay for the open gym they hold so she can keep practicing her moves.
Definitely can’t recommend enough!
